How To Dress Steampunk Without Spending Any Money

Steampunk Tendencies
Steampunk Tendencies

I think most people know about Steampunk by now. And those who don’t need to be educated quickly. The truth is, although Steampunk in itself has been growing popular for years, its styles are beginning to affect cultures like never before.

We may spend hours upon hours, dreaming of this Neo-Victorian world, surfing Pinterest boards and the like, but the truth is that beautiful Steampunk costumes and gadgets are aย  bit out of most people’s price ranges. Never fear. You have a closet don’t you? ๐Ÿ˜‰

What I’m trying to say is that even though you can’t afford gorgeous filigree corsets, or ruffle skirts and caps designed especially for Steampunkians, you can still dress with a Steampunk feel with what you have in your closet.

A hypothesis, of course, but it seems it has developed into a theory.

We used some models and pulled some things out of our closets. A few of the things were articles that we are selling. I even teamed up with Literate, My Dear and borrowed an unfinished necklace, and this is what we came up with:

Outfit of the Day: Steampunk Traveler Outfit

The Elegant Steampunk Traveler

Deconstructing the outfit:

1) Skirt. The skirt was donated to Manor House Designs, and UFM added the sparkly silver strip. Its full and fluffy fit is similar to the ruffly skirts so common in the modern Steampunk styles. Here’s a closer look:

2. Top, Gloves, Tights, Necklace, Scarf, and Jacket. The top is a simple lace top hidden under the faux leather jacket (which gives the outfit the travel feel) and the huge, handmade scarf which will soon be up on Manor House Designs. ย The gloves are also crocheted by UFM, and match the cranberry tights which are featured in an older post. The necklace, as mentioned before, is an unfinished train necklace by Literate, My Dear.

3.Boots. The same boots featured here.

4.Clutch made by the notorious UFM, and featured here.

5. You may not believe this, but the hat was a paper New Years celebration hat given to us for the shoot! We took off the paper celebration attachment, and so now it looks like a tiny top hat.

A Closer Look

So, there you have it. An outfit with a bit of Steampunk tendencies. If this inspires you to attack your closet and come up with unique outfits, please comment your creation! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a lovely day, and don’t forget to be imaginative!
